Historical Riding

Back in 2006 John became interested in Roman saddles and tack. This lead him to learning to ride as a Roman in a Roman four-horned saddle without stirrups. He needed to understand and make the the tack, as well as making the equipment work on the back of a horse. He developed a unit of late Roman cavalry for Comitatus and in June 2010 lead out a record seven Roman horsemen in a public display.

His interest in riding lead him to obtain various saddles and even to try and recreate Greek cavalry based upon the writings of Xenophon. This involves no saddles at all!
